Polaris’s Oncology Distress Management System to be Offered in Spanish
August 2, 2011
Langhorne, PA (August 2, 2011)- In response to customer feedback, Polaris Health Directions will release a Spanish version of its Oncology Distress Management System in June 2012.
Spanish-speaking cancer patients will be able to complete the online assessment and view their individualized Patient Feedback Report in Spanish. The one-page Clinician Summary report will still be produced in English.
The Polaris Oncology Distress Management System (PODMS) is a comprehensive Web-based solution that assesses psychosocial distress in cancer patients and automatically generates treatment referrals matched to a patient’s specific needs, insurance status and other characteristics. Developed with funding from the National Institute for Mental Health, it assesses symptoms and concerns recommended in the distress management guidelines from the National Comprehensive Cancer Network and the American College of Surgeons.
In addition to emotional distress, this EHR-compatible system also screens for and monitors risky drinking and smoking; cancer-related physical symptoms and side effects; and adherence to the prescribed medical regimen and lifestyle change recommendations. The system will generate referrals for counseling, treatment for substance use, tobacco cessation programs, and cancer support groups, among others.
